Swiss serving sizes and a fetal comparison.

So yes, wine in Swiss restaurants comes by the deciliter, and other serving sizes are often posted on the menu too, mainly for meat and cheese dishes. A standard serving of fondue is 200 grams, a fact not lost on Gilles yesterday after having received the news that the baby now weighs 190 grams (a size which apparently would make even an 18-weeker proud. Damn.).

We were mock-grumbling about who should be responsible for doing a household task that neither of us were eager about. "You do it," I told him, "I'm tired from growing 190 grams of baby."

"Please," he shot back without missing a beat. "I ate more fondue than that this weekend."

Touché. But it's still growing, dear, it's still growing ... so although this task may have been mine, the next will certainly be yours.

swiss wine, swiss glass
(and only a little bit of perspective trickery).

  5. That is funny. You guys are cute. Cheese babies are not as hard to grow. Not at all!

  6. I'm sorry to say I had to use an online conversion to get an idea of how many ounces you have with 190 grams. I'm not sure that is enough cheese per order. I'm totally serious.

    1. No worries, there are also portions for "grand mangeurs"! It comes with a look of disbelief.

  11. I think comparing baby size to alcoholic beverage measurements is *much* better than comparing it to fruit. Who wants to compare their baby to a kumquat? I don't even know what that is. However, a liter of wine? I'm intimately familiar with how big that is!

    1. I like that idea much better. You should do your own week-by-week assignation of beverages. I'd follow!
