Yep, that's right. The two-week wait.
Last week, I set some goals for these little-loved fourteen days. To wit:
- No obsessive Googling of pregnancy symptoms.
- No peeing on sticks until the two weeks have passed.
- No talking incessantly to Gilles about (a) miscarriage or (b) pregnancy or (c) getting over the former or (d) causing the latter.
How am I doing with this? Good, actually.
No obsessive Googling has occurred. By now I think I know every possible obscure little symptom by heart, and anyway, at this stage, pretty much anything I would experience could just as easily be a pre-menstrual symptom.* (Sore boobs? Pregnant! Or about to get your period! Bloated? Same thing! Moody bitch? Same again! Or perhaps you’re just being yourself!)
Nothing has been peed on since last dictated by the CBEFM (“I feel so freeeee!” I crowed to Gilles, heading stick-free to the bathroom the morning after the highly venerated peak reading), nor will anything be peed on until next Sunday morning. I will hold firm here. I will! I won't even give into any “but we'll give you an accurate result up to six days before your missed period” cheating!
And beyond a moment of weakness the other day (“I hope … I hope …,” I told him, neither of us needing me to say more), I’ve managed to find other topics to talk about with Gilles, over what will be, hopefully – please, please – the last few glasses of wine we’ll enjoy together for a while.
Halfway there.
*I found some handy advice on answering that exasperatingly unanswerable question:
YIKES! So how can you tell whether you are just having PMS or you’re experience [sic] true pregnancy symptoms? Wait to see if your period comes [emphasis added].
Consider it done.
Halfway there.
I can totally relate to the obsessive Googling of pregnancy symptoms when I already have them memorized AND they don't necessarily mean a pregnancy. So cruel! I am impressed with you holding out until the very end to take the pregnancy test, too. I have been tempted in the past to use the "test 3 days before your period with accurate results" stick, too.
ReplyDeleteWell, the week is young - let's see how strong I am on Friday! I think the determining factor will be that a good early-result test like CBE costs about $35 here ... for that price I'd better wait another couple days.
DeleteGood luck, Elizabeth! I hope the end of this week brings lots of positive tests. Remember, put down the Google. It is bad for our mental health!
ReplyDeleteOh yes it is! Thank you for the wishes.
